Vaccines and health for Egypt

Informational only — not medical advice. See a travel clinic before you go.

Key answer
No vaccines are legally required for most travellers to Egypt. A yellow-fever certificate may be required if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow-fever transmission. Always confirm current rules with an official health authority.

Recommended vaccines (check with a clinic)

Travel-health authorities commonly discuss vaccines such as hepatitis A, typhoid, tetanus and, for some travellers, hepatitis B and rabies. Your exact recommendations depend on your health, itinerary and length of stay — a travel clinic will advise.

Official health sources

Food & water safety

Drink bottled or properly treated water, avoid ice of unknown origin, and eat freshly cooked, hot food. Traveller’s diarrhoea is the most common complaint — carry oral rehydration salts.

Heat safety

Summer temperatures are extreme, especially in Upper Egypt (Luxor, Aswan) and the desert. Start early, cover up, use sunscreen, and hydrate constantly. Heat exhaustion is a real risk at midday.

Travel insurance

Take out travel insurance that covers medical care and repatriation. If you plan to dive on the Red Sea, confirm it covers diving and check the nearest hyperbaric chamber.
